Too much choice slows me down, also I'm moving
I've been logging some days on here, and it's been a good ride.
This platform's got a nice minimalist look and feel, it's intuitive, and it's not ad-ridden. But sadly I'm leaving anyway.
I re-started my blogging journey for two reasons, which are only one reason if you think about it. One, I'm sick of the hold social media has on me, on all of us. I'm not leaving social media anytime soon, mostly out of FOMO, but also because everyone I know is on there, and not on some tiny self-sufficient blog. I'll try my best to recruit them.
The other reason is, I went to Fred's talk on the small web and it made me go on a rabbit hole, looking for ways to leave the capitalist chains of attention-as-coin websites.
I was in a hurry, because of my impulsivity and the last push in Uni, and I ended up here in Bear. And I'd stay, too, if it had an ActivityPub protocol. But it doesn't, and I really want to connect to other websites and people and rebuild my online village, so I'll leave.
So I set out to look for an alternative, and spent two days clicking dead-link after dead-link in Fediverse instance lists, and couldn't find a blogging platform that was simple enough for a non-techy person to use, federated, and not sketchy.
Ideally, I'd set up my own domain, and a small personal website on the IndieWeb, and I R E A L L Y want to do that. But as of now I have neither the money nor the know-how to set that up, so it'll be a fun Summer project I guess.
In the meantime, I'll be at Wordpress with their Fediverse plugin. It's the best I can do right now.
So, yeah! Goodbye for now, Bear, hello, Wordpress. Find me at this blog, for now.
